The way we use of our mobile phone is changing how we work, rest and play.
There are 5.3 billion mobile users globally, that's 77% of the world's population. From text messaging and the latest apps to mobile websites, the potential for business is huge. However, UK retailers' 'poor' mobile web strategies mean they are missing out on up to £4bn of revenue as smartphone users are put off using their sites.
Mobile websites (optimised for viewing on smartphones) can work very well if developed in the right way. With the UK having the highest number of people engaging in mobile commerce, what better time than in 2012 to connect with your customers, quite literally in the palm of their hands. A recent mobile survey revealed that over 72% of people access the internet via their mobile phone.
Whilst there's a healthy appetite for mobile commerce as a way to open up new revenue channels for messaging, advertising and payments, businesses need to be careful not to drive customers in the wrong direction. There's a need to carefully mould mobile into existing marketing to ensure it complements and enhances what you're doing already. But one thing's for sure - mobile is set to be a fantastic tool for your business in 2012.
