Digital ad spending was up marginally in 2009, according to the annual report from
Razorfish.
While digital ad spending slumped in the early
half of 2009, the increases in the fourth quarter resulted in overall
digital marketing expenditures being up for the year. Razorfish's report
indicates digital ad spend was up 4 percent in 2009, as opposed to
being down 13 percent in 2008.
With many businesses spending less
money, many expected B2B online marketing campaigns would take a more direct approach.
According to Razorfish's report, though, 60 percent of businesses that
switched their marketing approaches moved to more brand-focused
advertising.
Finally, emerging media continues to be a focus of
many marketing firms, though it may not see a proportionate amount of
the marketing budget. This is especially the case with social media,
says Razorfish. Though many firms are devoting more time to social
media, only 4 percent of marketing budgets are spent on it.
Digital
marketing spending is continuing to trend up going into 2010. According to recent statistics from iAB, digital ad spending was up 7.5 percent year-over-year from Q1 2009. Digital ad revenues were over $5 billion.
