Yahoo global display revenue jumps 17 percent during Q3

Highlighting the rebound of display advertising, Yahoo has reported that global display ad revenue was up 17 percent during the third quarter.

The company released its Q3 financial reports on Wednesday. Display ad revenue on Yahoo's internal websites grew more than 18 percent in 2010 overall. This helped boost Yahoo's overall revenue by 2 percent quarter-over-quarter to $1.6 billion.

With the Yahoo-to-Bing transition almost complete, the company did note its search revenue was down significantly, recording a 7 percent decline. In a conference call with investors, Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz conceded that the migration of search results to Microsoft's adCenter did cost the company some short-term revenue.

Though display marketing declined in 2009, it seems to be making a strong recovery during the first half of this year. The Interactive Advertising Bureau recently reported that display-related spend grew 2 percent year-over-year, with brands allocating more than $4.36 billion in advertising  to the channel. The format accounted for 36 percent of budgets, emphasizing the importance of display to digital marketing.
