Brief
The challenge was simple; develop a digital website experience that would engage, enthuse and motivate a new and existing audience of theatre fans with a theatre that would be knocked down and rebuilt over a two year period. The task was quite considerable!
Our Solution
Through a comprehensive program of analysis of other theatres, other charities, bricks and mortar appeals, theatre website users and theatre goers, we started development of numerous Use Case personas for experience and information architecture testing. We then came up with a concept for the website that would reflect all the drama and majesty of the project itself.
Our proposal was to create drama through visual appeal, interactive and animated content, blogs and competitions. We believe that the New Marlowe Theatre website will keep people captivated and engaged in the project, fund raising campaign and the 'Marlowe in Motion' theatre for the two year closure period.
We delivered a fully content managed website solution that enabled the PR and Marketing teams to be able to keep the website’s content up to date. It also allows them to be able to monitor and report on its use and success. The 100+ page website is content managed by the Marlowe Theatre Project Group, Canterbury City Council and the Marlowe Theatre jointly. It enables them to develop timely, relevant and engaging content in order to captivate users and develop real brand engagement.
The key page for the website was the home page. We designed strong look and feel, then to further build on the drama we produced a captivating, exciting and dramatic, short and sharp video piece that then leads into showing links to other key areas of the website (3D interactive tour, blog content and timeline sections).
The Result
Although it's very early days with the website being launched in March 2009, early results show that our focus on user experience, interactivity and continually developing content is creating a community of digital theatre fans and interested parties. Watch this space...
